MUSIC MINISTRY

NEW HOPE MUSIC PROGRAM, FALL 2023

At New Hope, we are committed to fostering the musical gifts of our congregation to encourage and strengthen congregational singing, offer appropriate presentational music for worship services and other special services, support and complement the values and programs of the various New Hope ministries, and reach out to the broader community with the good news of the saving love of Christ and His lordship over all of life, including the arts.

Music ensembles include the following:

  • Adult Choir (starting Wednesday September 6, 6:15-7:25 pm, sanctuary) prepares occasional preludes and offertories, including extensive participation during Advent/Christmas and Lent/Easter seasons. The only musical requirement is the ability to sing in tune. Choir members must attend Wednesday rehearsals. Those who cannot read music and/or have no choral experience are required to attend a note-reading session, Wednesday, August 30, 6:15-7:25 pm. If interested in participating, please fill out the sign-up form, located on the narthex table by Sunday, August 27.
  • Worship Team singers and instrumentalists (Wednesdays, 7:30-8:15 pm, sanctuary) provide service music accompaniment weekly. If interested in participating, please see Randall.
  • Various possible ensembles, including Children’s Choir and Youth Choir (ages 5-18) (starting Wednesday, August 30 (times, rooms TBD) prepare music for occasional preludes and offertories. If parents are interested in their children participating in a choral ensemble, please fill out the interest signup sheet on the narthex table by Sunday, August 20. Depending on the level of interest, one or more ensembles will be formed, including possibly a Children’s Choir, Boy Choir, Girls Choir, and/or Youth Choir.

CONSERVATORY

Our goals: 
  • inspire and equip life-long learners to use their skills to the glory of God
  • prepare for the Church and the world those who will serve through the Arts. 

Our values: 
  • provide a venue for those of all skill and ability levels to learn and mature in their craft 
  • offer opportunities for community performance and display in a variety of venues 
  • collaborate with Christian schools and churches
  • build an online presence and a nexus of resources

Currently, we offer private instruction for all ages in piano, voice, flute, clarinet, and music theory. We hold a popular annual Music & Art Camp for children in grades K - 6th. Fall 2023 Conservatory Instructors & Lesson Offerings

Dr. Randall Van Meggelen

piano, music theory
Dr. Randall Van Meggelen has taught piano lessons for over 35 years. He currently is music director at New Hope Presbyterian Church. He has served as music director in various Reformed and Presbyterian churches in Florida for over 30 years and has taught Bible and music in Christian elementary and high schools in Toronto, Panama City, and central Florida. Before entering college, Randall studied piano and theory through the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto. Randall holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in music and sociology (Covenant College), a Master of Church Music (Concordia University), and a Doctor of Worship Studies (Institute of Worship Studies).

Tina Van Meggelen

voice, flute
Tina Van Meggelen began teaching voice 30 years ago. She has taken voice lessons since she was 14 years old. She has studied under various instructors through high school, college, and adulthood. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Minor in Music (Covenant College). Tina has also sung as a soloist and in numerous choral ensembles. Tina started playing flute in elementary school, and continued performing in high school marching band, college orchestra, and church services.

Natalie Renick

piano, voice
Natalie Renick has been teaching in Lake County for 25 years. Growing up, she trained with the Royal Conservatory of Music in voice and piano. She works with students of all ages and levels and her goal is to develop a lifelong love of music in my students.
